Strength training felt AMAZING today! I've had so much energy recently and I strongly contribute that to forcing myself to get 8-10 hours of sleep for the past 3-4 days. Rest and recovery is just as important as the work you put in when it comes to improving your athletic performance. For those of you who are interested in enhancing your fitness capabilities in and out of the weight room I strongly recommend you keep a journal and record your sleep habits (length of time and quality) as well as your energy levels throughout each day. I personally have been drinking sleepytime tea before bed and it has helped me tremendously with sleeping through the night.

It wasnt until I began working at Equinox I recognized the benefits of sleeping for a solid 7-8 hours a night. In fact when I was in college I would get 3-4 hours of sleep every night and claim to be fine (regardless of my eyes twitching, inability to concentrate and intense mood swings). If you or a loved one experiences any of the above please try improving your sleep quantity and quality! It will make a difference, trust me!

Officially 150 lbs lost since May 22, 2017. These last 6 months have been hard. Really, really hard. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer back in August, and it’s shaken my world. My dad is my biggest weight loss champion—he’s seen me struggle, he’s seen me succeed. One of the first things he said to me after we learned the bad news of his diagnosis was “don’t let this derail you.” And I thought, of course I won’t! But the truth is, there have been plenty of times here toward the end of his battle with cancer where I’ve thought, why not indulge? Why not stop for fast food? I deserve this. But my dad’s words come back to me, and my resolve holds strong. Cancer can take a lot, but it can’t have this. And so, these last 20 lbs have been a slog, but they are well and truly gone, and good riddance. I’m on this journey to try something new—I know what fast food tastes like, I know what overindulgence feels like; I want to experience “One-derland.” And when his time comes, my dad will be cheering me on, just as hard, from his new vantage with God. #weightlossjourney #humanlossjourney #ilovemydad #150lbs #150lbsdown
