Same photo.. different day // I took a photo of the sunset yesterday and today I decided to take that same photo, 24 hours apart. Every day, the sun sets.. but it never sets the exact same way twice. You will also never be the same person twice. In life, you are always making new mistakes and learning from them. Life is filled with choice.. every mistake, every fight, every love. Every tear, every laugh, every smile, every regret.. is by choice. Life is a series of choices, perfected by trial and error. Sometimes there are setbacks.. sometimes every step forward you take, life puts you two steps back. But you have to keep choosing to move forward anyway; your biggest obstacle will always be yourself. Who are you going to be tomorrow? . . . . . 50mm F/13 1/30 ISO 100 #Sunset #photography #sky #skycolors #canon1ds #canon #canonlserieslens #canonphotography #virginia #virginiaisforlovers #beautifulvirginia #50mm #50mmf18 #depthoffield #trees #nature #throughmylens #samephotodifferentday #lifelessons #photographylifelessons
I love the variety of form and expression that are exuberant at festivals and soulful events. One of my favourite things about photography is waiting for the perfect moment of joy and beauty. Like any good hunting endeavour this requires patient waiting and many misses! Like in life you can’t force something to happen if it’s not ready to happen. You can’t force a flower to bloom. So too can you not force the perfect shot (no matter how hard you try!). Waiting patiently, taking small actions leading toward a greater outcome. Whether it’s honing your photography, growing a garden or tending to a relationship, when we slow down we can synch with nature, drop into the body and out of the busyness of the mind! #photography #500px #instadaily #transformation #snapseed #festivalphotography #transformationalfestival #photographicphilosophy #photographylifelessons #lightroom #photoshop #dancer #templedancer #pursuitofportraits #love #instagood #photooftheday #beautiful #happy #picoftheday #woman #womandancing #life #beauty #pretty #party #healthy #lifestyle
I used to dislike shooting in a cloudy day. Until @vicbengunn taught me to appreciate and see the beauty in every situation. We can’t control every situation, but we can certainly decide how we respond and work on the outcome we can produce. #photographylifelessons . . . . . . #visitmelbourne #melbournelife #melbournecbd #travelaustralia #travelmelbourne #travellust #seeaustralia #melbournewinter #lonelyplanet #wanderlust #lightroom #vsco #travel #melbonpix #checkmelbourne #sositchu #melbournetouristguide #melbourne #victoria

Pro Photographer v. The Artist I practically hate making money off of taking photos. And it’s not because I hate making money. I’m an entrepreneur and a capitalist. Money is the driving factor for me to create the things I want. The “necessary evil” as many people have come to say. Money shouldn’t be the reason you want to take photos. Too many “photographers” (this is why not all people who make money on weddings and such, taking photos, are genuine photographers), although I love their initiative, take photos because it takes no skill to put your finger in the button, and push down, and they can get some quick cash. I’m sorry to say to you Han Solo Photographer wannabes, but you can’t only be in it for the money, and be a genuine photographer. Being a photographer takes skill & heart. Not a stomach for some canned aerosol cheddar spread (cheese = money, for you young-ins that don’t get it). Thankfully, many of these “photographers” end up realizing photography isn’t for them, or they actually fall in love with the craft, and money only becomes the benefit they reap from their work. And this comes to my point. Why I hate making money with Photography, but why I’ll still do it: I let money become my driving factor my photography, and in my case, my work become sloppy and mediocre. So I stopped do shoots and gigs, and just did little photo trips with people, for free. I had lost the creative drive, and I needed it back. And it’s still a work in progress. “The love of money, is the root of all evil.” So I hate the necessity of needing money to do anything. And instead, I am doing what I love. Do what you love, and people will notice, and potentially they might pay you. And for all us Christians out there, do what you love, unto the Lord, and do what pleases you, and I can almost guarantee, you won’t need to worry about where your money comes from, ever again. - So recently, I’ve been browsing the grams, and getting photography inspiration. And what I’d like to do, is give a weekly shoutout to 2 photographers: 1 being a photographer I look up to; and the other being a new (or at least to me) photographer. What Makes a Photographer. Frame every shot. Take your time. In regards to photography, I respect the person who sat for hours for one shot, rather than the “kid” with a camera that snaps a pic every other second. I was that kid, and yes, in settings like concerts or weddings, you kinda just have to keep your finger on the “trigger”, and just shoot away hoping you have the best shots. But there needs to be an understanding. Taking pictures doesn’t inherently make you a photographer. Taking photos for clients and making big bucks, doesn’t make you a professional photographer. There really isn’t a set standard or bar that you have to meet to become a photographer or even a professional photographer. It’s more so just time. You spend time behind the camera, and your work will prove your worth (in relation to photography). I don’t despise these “kids” who pick up a camera and go take senior photos, or wedding photos, and make money. Hell, in fact I love them, but only for the initiative in the sense of the entrepreneurial mentality. And I applaud them for it. But I’m talking about photography right now. And if you pick up a camera and expect your work to me amazing, you’re in for a rude awakening. I have spent the last 15 years taking photos. And it wasn’t until 2014 that I called myself a photographer, and 2015 when I called myself a professional photographer. And then I realized, I practically hated taking photos for money. Finishing up this beautiful wedding gallery and am struck by this photograph. Sometimes it is the unscripted in between moments that say the most. When we as the photographers step back, quiet down, and recognize the beauty that is unfolding naturally in front of us. I think there is also a life lesson to be found here!
Perspective is everything. Sometimes, it can be hard to get past what your eyes initially see. And maybe what you see can look harsh or just plain ugly...Don't allow yourself to get stuck there. Look for the light! Shift your perspective. Sometimes that might require you to actually move, get out of your own head space and position yourself to see things differently. You never know what kind of beauty you may find on the other side. You just have to be willing to move, change, and see... #ChasetheLight #PhotographyLifeLessons . . .
Isn't it crazy how your mood and the light you seek can completely change your outcome (aka photography)? Sometimes in life all I can see are the rocks. The problems in my life which I pick up, inspect, and carry around. Sometimes they take over my entire view because I bring them so close. I end up missing out on the river next to me, the sunset behind me, and the forest in front of me. Choosing today to leave the rocks where they are at and see it all. #photographylifelessons #seniorsession
