Amost every summer I fly home to Utah on @southwestair to visit my Dad. We go on hiking adventures in Southern Utah and Arizona with a family friend who lives in the heart of some of America's most well known National Parks and recreational areas that are unique and beautiful. Each trip we explore different magical places.

Last June we went to Paige, AZ and experienced Horseshoe Bend from above at the jaw dropping cliff overlook area (where my dad faced his fear of heights) and from below on a boat trip down part of the Colorado River.
If you take a boat trip you might get to see some of these petroglyphs at one of the rest areas and some wild horses along the river between the Hoover Dam and Lee's Ferry.

Gambar Cadas Nusantara dan Geger Sejarah Dunia • •
Sahabat, menempuh perjalanan dua jam dengan berjalan kaki dari Kampung Merabu, gambar cadas berupa cap tangan dijumpai di Gua Beloyot, Merabu, Kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur. Untuk mencapai gua ini, tim harus berjalan menembus belantara dan mendaki bukit karst, memasuki gua lalu keluar lagi, kemudian menyisir tepian tebing curam berketinggian ratusan meter hingga tiba di mulut Gua Beloyot. Gambar cadas yang berusia puluhan ribu tahun ini adalah satu dari sekian banyak gambar cadas yang ada di kawasan Karst Sangkulirang Mangkalihat. Gambar cadas tak hanya ada di Kalimantan, tapi juga di Sumatra, Sulawesi, dan Papua.

Selama dua tahun ini jagad telah digegerkan dengan Gua Leang Timpuseng di Maros- Pangkep, Sulawesi Selatan. Rajah cadasnya telah memutarbalikan teori tentang tradisi gambar cadas dalam tataran arkeologi dunia. Selama ini para ahli arkeologi meyakini bahwa tradisi gambar cadas dimulai dan dibesarkan dalam ruang dan waktu prasejarah Eropa Barat, sekitar 40.000-10.000 tahun silam. Namun, Gua Timpuseng telah mengekalkan imaji tertuanya yang berupa kumpulan cap tangan bertarikh 39.900 tahun. Angka ini melunturkan teori sebelumnya. Sejarah peradaban manusia tampaknya perlu ditulis ulang.
Tradisi gambar cadas merupakan tradisi manusia prasejarah dalam menyampaikan pesan melalui gambar. Gambar-gambar itu tidaklah berdiri sendiri, namun berasosiasi dengan lingkungannya. Misalnya, gambar dilukis pada gua yang dipercaya berenergi gaib. Energi itu ada karena berasosiasi dengan suatu gunung, sungai, padang rumput, hutan, atau laut.

In Guaviare, a big-river rainforest heartland on the doorstep of the Amazon jungle, our earliest American ancestors left stories of big hunts, the adoration of the sun, the moon, hundreds of hand prints and many thousands of stories painted on sandstone walls protected on tepuis rising above the humid jungle below. The true meaning behind these paintings, we'll never know nor have the capability to decipher. Just around San José de Guaviare, there are 54 panels; some are a day's walk through forest, swamp, and river. Organic material--including bones and seeds--discovered at these sites have been carbon dated back 12,000 years, meaning the stories we are reading (inventing) today, likely involved a wholly different climate and geography, as well as animals that were long ago killed off by humans. The famous mega-fauna, animals like the giant sloth, camels, and from the looks in one painting a wide-nosed hippopotamus-like creature, all of whom rose from the ice age during the Pleistocene. These walls are like pages of books, only every couple hundred of years, another troupe of humans may come along and draw over the last story. Nature is also working to erase what is left with lichen, water streaks, and termites. The Colombian government is not currently protecting these panels of art, but local communities are stepping up and incorporating tourism as a driver of their local economy, which for years was ravaged by war and the drug trade.
