The past three days have been the most challenging but most rewarding days I’ve had in a long time

This photo was part of a challenge. A challenge @willkhouryphotography gave us the very first day, “You will have 2 minutes to shoot whatever you want, but you only have 3 clicks.” If you know me and have shot with me, you might understand why that terrified me. I didn’t know what to do and ran around the Airbnb like a crazy person trying to find some inspiration. Some sort of idea. Something that wouldn’t look lame compared to the other amazing photographers there. But after sitting with @vinnbrooks for 5 minutes I was instantly put at ease (thanks Vinn, you the real mvp). I had an idea. And I’d love to share that with you, because it is a story. My story. Our story.

I have looked at a mirror hundreds of times, and every time I’ve looked at that mirror all I saw was everything wrong with me. Every flaw a previous ex pointed out or a flaw I saw and made for myself. My hair. My butt. My stomach. My face. My personality. Everything. I could critique it all. It wasn’t until Cory came along that things changed for me. Me and Cory started dating after a really dark period of my life. I had just started coming out of it and didn’t really love myself. But Cory did. He quickly showed me everything he loved about me. My hair. My butt. My stomach. My face. My personality. Everything. I would look in the mirror and list everything I thought was wrong, and he would turn me around and say why everything wasn’t. He loved me even when I didn’t love everything about myself.

That’s what this photo was. It was everything I could do to feel connected to Cory while I was on the other side of the country. The rest of this series is my journey from the darkness. One day I will share the other two photos. But for now, here is my story. @funkyouworkshop has been an amazing and challenging experience. I can’t wait for you to see the growth that is coming, that has already come from the past three days
