A day off from school means time for my other work—revising!
•
There was a time in my writing journey when I thought I would never get here. But don’t let Instagram fool you because these moments of focused writing work are few & far between in this season, which often still leave me wondering if I’ll ever get this revision done.
•
Especially as the next eight weeks will be spent working my day job & writing in the spaces between, counting down to Spring break.
•
But if you’re a newbie writer, don’t fret. I’ll honestly tell you it isn’t easy to find the in between writing spaces if you’re a #writerwithadayjob but it IS 💯% possible.
•
This week, I started a new series on the blog just for writers where I share some of my favorite things that have helped me on my own journey, including how to find the time to write.
•
So if you’re looking for books, handouts, courses, craft tips, or other writers to connect with, I’ve got the hook up.

Or at least one blog post with a few resources to get you started.
•
If you’re a beginning writer or a writer in the beginning stages, I’d love to connect & cheer each other along.

This poster was in a store window when we were in Italy and I didn’t buy it. I can’t stand regrets like this! I have a strange relationship with things I desire...it’s as if I feel unworthy of it because I love it so much. That may not make sense to you...but I know my father is the exact same way. Somehow I feel slightly validated that I’m somewhat normal by that.

The picture and the fact that I didn’t buy it wraps up my relationship with writing. I love words....I love stringing them together to paint your imagination. I want to tickle every sense to the point you are right next to me in the very same room. I want to make your heart yearn or beat a little faster. I want to bring you into my world.

However, I don’t do it nearly enough. In the poster I see a girl so excited about her type writer that she can’t bring herself to even touch it. Once you start writing, it means that ultimately it’s going to be read. I can bring you into my world, but maybe what excites me is going to scare you. Maybe what I perceive as normal, you are going to think is insane.

I need to start taking down my fences and write anyway. What I create isn’t for pleasing others, it’s about feeding my creative soul. I am the girl in this poster...but it’s time she starts touching those shiny keys and mastering her craft.

“What exactly are we doing,” Fenrir groaned as we rounded into one of the neighborhoods close to Fayetteville High. “I thought we’d go for a walk since it’s such a nice day.” “You’re adorable,” he replied, stretching his legs as he dug his paws into the dirt. “Now why the hell did you drag me from the comfort of my perfectly good couch to have to move around? Right now, I could be doing literally nothing.” “Truth is I need your help.” Stopping in his tracks, Fenrir pulled against the leash as he raised his floppy ears toward me. “Excuse me?” “I said I need your help. I have to run some errands while Em is at school, which means I can’t be there watching for threats. Where as even from a few blocks away you’ll be able to sniff them out.” “Ya know, human,” Fenrir trotted happily past me, “You’ve come a long way since being the ungrateful and useless skin bag me and Baldy rescued all those years ago. I am an excellent human trainer if I do say so myself.” “Uh hu,” I nodded. “You’ve really mastered the art of me putting you on a leash.” “Be sarcastic all you want. It won’t be me shoveling my shit into a baggy here in a few minutes.” “You know what… actually I got nothing. Fair enough”
Scoffing, Fenrir looked at me from the corner of his eyes, “Guess the old saying is true. Even old idiots can learn new tricks; and you just learned how to shut the hell up.” “Why are you always so mean?” “It’s all I have to live for,” Fenrir replied, sniffing the air ahead. “I can smell desserts. Specifically the ones that are the only good part of your overrated coffee shop.” “My shop is not overrated!”
“You’re right. People have to go there for it to be overrated.” “Why don’t you finish teaching me about shutting up now,” I fired back.
“Did a good idea just come out of your mouth? Remind me to give you a treat when we get home,” Fenrir replied with a grin as we made our way to the end of the street.
